Harvard GlobalWE Student/ Alumni Roundtable:
How Women are Reshaping a Polarized Media:
A Conversation with Annafi Wahed, Founder of The Flip Side
Saturday, February 9, 2019 | 2:00-4:00pm ET | Phillips Brooks House, Harvard University Campus
This event took place on February 9th, 2019. Registration is no longer open.
This event is FREE for all students, and $10 for alumni, affiliates, staff, and guests. Registration information is below.
Some of the questions we will tackle:
- How are women playing a significant role in reducing polarization in the media?
- How are global women's issues covered in the media, and how does this affect awareness and understanding of women's struggles around the world?
- How do we reduce the politicization and co-opting of women's issues within the media?
- Can global women's rights be covered by the media as human rights not owned by ideology or political party?
Last year, alumni and students gathered in a roundtable discussion on sexual harassment and the #MeToo movement, engaging in important conversation surrounding a pressing topic for all of us (as covered in The Crimson). This event kicked off what is now an annual event - The Harvard GlobalWE Student/Alumni Roundtable - to be held each February at the conclusion of the HAA's Alumni Leadership Conference.
This year, during a time when media outlets have gained both reputations and followings for upholding certain points of view, Harvard GlobalWE is bringing students and alumni back together again, this time to tackle the question of whether women can reduce polarization in the media. We are honored to be joined by our guest speaker and moderator, Annafi Wahed, founder of The Flip Side, an online media platform providing concise summaries of political analysis from both conservative and liberal media. Annafi will be joined by Flip Side board members Allison Lee Pillinger Choi, AB '06, and Angela Cho.
For anyone who will be in Cambridge for the HAA's Alumni Leadership Conference, and for others who can make it to Cambridge, we would love to have as many alumni and students as possible attend. This is also a great opportunity for our alumni to engage with students, many of whom are part of (or interested in joining) a global women's empowerment student group. This event is open to all Harvard University students, staff, affiliates and your guests.
We hope to see you in February!
